Adult Forum Series: Julian of Norwich, Revelations of Divine Love
Sundays May 5th, 12th and 19th at 9am.
Very little is known about Julian of Norwich. Indeed, we don’t even know her name. Instead, she is referred to by the name of St. Julian’s Church, Norwich where she spent the majority of her life as a consecrated anchorite sealed within her cell. However, there are records of people making pilgrimages to seek counsel from “Dame Julian” and she appears to have been recognized as a spiritual authority during her own lifetime. After asking God to give her a greater understanding of Christ’s passion, Julian experienced a series of divine revelations or “showings”. In her writings, known as the Revelations of Divine Love, Julian not only records these showings but uses them as the basis for her own rich theology.
Copies of Revelations of Divine Love are available from the parish office. Participants are encouraged to read the whole of “the short text” in which Julian presents the showings with her initial interpretations. In the forums, we will tackle short sections of the more theologically developed “long text”.
A donation of $10 to cover the cost of the book is invited.
