Happenings on December 8: Education & Outreach

Education:

Seeing Jesus Through the Eyes of Our Neighbors
Sundays 1st, 8th, and 15th December
Led by Jamie Gianoutsos and Elizabeth Phelps

In this final section of our Adult Forum series this Fall, the themes of Advent will frame our exploration of what it means to Love our Neighbors. With the help of paintings & portraits, along with excerpts from St Anselm’s beautiful prayers, we’ll examine together our expectations and responses to the inbreaking of God into the world through Christ. Christ has come! Christ is coming! Christ will come again!

Outreach

The House of Ruth: is a local women’s shelter with locations in Baltimore and D.C. Our Children & Youth program is partnering with the Charles Street location this year to provide Christmas gifts to the children who are staying at the House of Ruth during the Christmas season.

We hope to fill at least 15 shoe boxes with gifts for children of different genders and ages. Each box costs $30 to fill.

How you can help:

Anyone: If you feel called to sponsor a box (either entirely or in part), click here, or put a check in the offering plate on Sunday with “shoebox” in the memo. We are also in need of wrapping paper, so if you have any partially used rolls from previous Christmases, please consider donating them.

Parents/Guardians: Be sure to bring your child on December 8th to fill their box!

Bunches of Lunches: Join our friends at the Har Sinai – Oheb Shalom Congregation on December 8 at 3:00 p.m. with other parishes to make thousands of lunches for kids in need. Please bring a jar of peanut butter with you if you plan to attend. If you’d like to carpool, please meet at St. John’s no later than 2:30 p.m.!
